Editorial Standards & Guidelines
The Edit is the founder’s personal blog, published by Blowtrumpet Technologies. It is opinion written in one person’s name, not a company position — but it is published by a company, and these are the rules it runs under.
1 · Disclosure of interest
I am not a neutral source about this industry. I run a company that competes in it, and much of what I write touches on things I stand to gain from.
Where a post discusses Blowtrumpet, its products, its competitors, or a question where the company has a commercial position, the post says so. Where I hold an interest in something I mention, I declare it. If you ever find a post where that disclosure is missing, tell me and I will add it.
2 · Consent
Nobody is named, quoted, photographed or made identifiable here without their consent, obtained in advance.
That applies to colleagues, candidates, clients, creators and people I have worked with. Where a story needs a person, I ask them first, show them the passage, and do not publish if they would rather I did not — including when the story is flattering. Consent may be withdrawn later, and the material comes out.
Private conversations stay private. Anything said to me in confidence, in a closed session, or under the Chatham House Rule does not appear here.
3 · Privacy
No personal information about any individual appears in posts. Where a post touches the company’s privacy position, it states the claim exactly — no viewer personal data, not minimised, not anonymised, not collected — and acknowledges that Blowtrumpet is a data fiduciary for creator and business-contact data. I will not let the shorthand drift.
Comments: see the Community Guidelines. Commenters’ email addresses are never published or used for anything else.
4 · Corrections and updating
I do not quietly edit published posts.
- Typos and formatting are fixed silently. Nothing else is.
- Factual corrections carry a dated note at the foot of the post saying what was wrong and what it now says.
- Where I have changed my mind, I say so in a new post or an update block rather than rewriting the old one. The point of a blog called The Edit is that the earlier draft stays visible.
- Where a post describes a company policy, product decision or design that has since changed, it gets a dated note saying so and linking to what is current.
- Where a post has been overtaken entirely, it is marked historical rather than deleted.
Takedown. A post comes down if someone withdraws consent, if it creates a risk to somebody’s safety or privacy, or if it is wrong in a way a correction cannot fix. The page then says the post was removed and when.

5 · Reuse and republishing
Without asking: quote extracts with attribution and a link to the original post, including in commercial and academic work. Please carry the qualifications — a lot of what is here is argued rather than settled, and a sentence lifted from a paragraph that goes on to complicate it is not what I said.
Ask first to republish a post in full, translate it, or put it behind a paywall. The answer is usually yes, with a canonical link back.
Please do not present the writing as your own, alter it so its meaning changes, use it to imply I endorse you or your product, or republish a post that has since been corrected or removed without that notice.
6 · Copyright
Posts and images here are owned by or licensed to Blowtrumpet Technologies. Third-party material is quoted within fair dealing under the Copyright Act, 1957 and attributed. If you think I have used your work without permission, write to legal@blowtrumpet.com and it comes down while we sort it out.
7 · Trade marks
Blowtrumpet™, Ravaki™, Tejaki™ and State of Ads™ are my trade marks in use with Blowtrumpet Technologies.
Refer to them truthfully in word-mark form — in reporting, research or comparison — without implying endorsement. Logo use, badges, co-branding and use in a company name, product name, domain or handle need written permission from legal@blowtrumpet.com. Altering a logo, using a confusingly similar name, or implying an association that does not exist is never permitted.
8 · AI and authorship
Posts here are written by me. Where a tool has done substantive work on a piece, it says so at the foot. I am accountable for every word published under my name either way.
